GCL cuts and forms the Prowler windshield from Lexan, right here in the States. Lexan is an excellent material choice because it's significantly stronger than acrylic or automotive glass. It's tough as all get out, and rightfully so. There is no telling what you may encounter while trekking through the unpredictable. As stated before, the Arctic Cat front windshield is held into place with thumbscrews and heavy-duty Velcro. So, removing the top or portion is as easy as a twist. GCL two piece windshield for 2017 arctic cat HDX 500, March 10, 2021Posted By: peter
I was fairly skeptical about the fit as well as the long term durability of lexan instead of glass. Was not happy to see the box had broken open during shipping, could have done a better job supporting the product within the heavy duty box. Nothing was missing nor damaged so I got lucky there. Install was smooth, instructions mentioned two sets of hands but I had no trouble doing it all myself. Already had a bimini top so wasn't sure how that was going to be layered in and went into it with an open mind assuming I would have to remove and reinstall after choosing the wrong path. Brackets are heavy duty and nice. A rubber washer was included with the luck nut to assemble the two halves of each bracket. Assumed that was to go between the halves and not directly under the locking nut but the instructions never mentioned that. Installed without issue and the bimini top ended up going over everything like I had hoped and it fit fine. The only fit issue was where the bottom half touches the dashboard as the hood can't open all the way now and the locking lever can't hold the hood up like before, could have recessed the bottom section 1/2 inch back and I think it wouldn't interfere. I did get a call from the manufacturer requesting pictures, so essentially this is a custom install to a degree as they said the dash is different on all the models and years and hard to keep track. Sidebybsidestuff was fantastic throughout, I received multiple calls updating me on shipping and delivery status as I happened to order this right before the country was hit with bad weather. Researched the hard coating option separately and ended up spending the extra $100+ on that, rather not have to replace the windshield in short order. This is for a 2017 Arctic Cat HDX 500 which is used for utilitarian needs and not really for trail riding. Thanks
